Photo Gallery: Inside Thinkerbell’s Brand New Swanky Sydney Digs
Indie creative, media and PR agency, Thinkerbell, has capped off a stellar 12 months, moving its Sydney office into swanky new digs in Redfern in the city’s inner west.
Following a flurry of new business wins and hires, the 40-strong Sydney team shifted out of its old offices in Surry Hills to the new premises that now boast the capacity to take as many as 70 staffers if and when further pitch wins arise.
The whole thinking behind the design was apparently to encourage as much interaction of Thinkerbell staff as possible. It also had to be an inviting place for clients who’d rather come to the cool new agency digs to discuss the latest ideas than their presumably own stuffy boardrooms.
And if you think Thinkerbell head honcho – adland sage, raconteur and conference regular, Adam Ferrier – has his own throne room, apparently he doesn’t, preferring to pull up a vacant stool when and where available.
Most noticeably the design (as the accompanying photos attest) deliberately avoid the tacky trinkets of desperate middle-aged management trying to engage with younger staffers such as slippery slides, ping-pong tables and pinball machines.
The final plans included collaboration from Thinkerbell staffers, with the design even overseen by the agency’s very own chief creative thinker, Paul Swann.
Swann telling B&T: “The whole idea behind the design came from crowdsourced ideas. What we wanted was that when we moved in all the staff would have a sense of ownership of it. We developed this internal ‘crack squad’ of people to really develop staff feedback and staff ideas.
“My job was to ‘ECD’ the whole thing. Work with the designers, the architects, the interior designers, that sort of thing. But, yes, that’s a little tangential from what I do with the rest of my day job.
“Ultimately want we wanted was this sense it was ‘our’ space and my job was to actively ensure the creation of it and it was really nice to see it manifest, come to fruition, really,” Swann declared.
